Nashville's brightest Star Dolly Parton has announced her plan to launch her new musical "Hello, I'm Dolly" an Original in 2026. We all know it will be a success, the question is how big?
Dolly doesn't do anything half way. She will give 100 percent of herself, and her team will pour more on top of that. A Nashville insider recalls the jokes and laughter overheard of the Opryland Theme Park executives at the news that Dolly Parton, ( in 1986 ) has bought the struggling "Silver Dollar City" near her hometown of Pigeon Forge Tennessee. The men in suits were making bets how long her newly named "Dollywood" could survive against Opryland and so many other Theme Parks. in 1997 Opryland closed its doors while Dollywood reported record profits promoting it's newest attraction billed as "The Highest and Fastest Waterfall Ride in America" with its 62 ft drop and an added a new Carousel.
Dolly's Broadway production will be a hit because she is loved by everyone. Every political party, every sexual orientation, every religion and secret society has claimed her as their own. She just smiles in response and puts her self down and compliments you in the same breath. That's Dolly. What we really want to know is what singing actress will play the starring role of 21 year old, 1967 Dolly Parton? The lead role will catapult some young new talents for sure. It will be exciting to see who.
New York City's Broadway has suffered many stunning setbacks in recent years. Mounting a Broadway show is proving to be too expensive for the veteran Broadway producers. The organizations that have been operating the game for the last 100 years are wondering what to do. The Broadway League, The Shubert Organization, Nederlander Organization ect. The longest running Broadway show Phantom of the Opera closed April 16, 2023 after 35 years at the Majestic Theatre in New York City. The wildly successful revival of Funny Girl on Broadway starring Beanie Feldstein, opened Aprill 24, 2022 later on, starred Lea Michele and breakout sensation Julie Benko had a sudden unexpected end on Sept 3rd 2023. Harmony the stage musical with music by Barry Manilow and book and lyrics by Bruce Sussman was expected to be a huge hit. It had all the markings of a mega hit. It opened on Broadway, at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre Nov 13, 2023 grossed $534,769, which is not enough to sustain a musical of its size; and closed February 4, 2024.
Broadway musical "Hamilton " will remain the King of Broadway for a long time. No one has come close. It looks like Lin - Manuel Miranda's reign will last forever. He created a show that combines hip-hop, rap, R&B, soul, and traditional show tunes to reach younger audiences that theater had not spoken to before. It's been said that, that Miranda created an anthem to ambition, love, and American History, presented in the most inspiring Broadway production. Miranda’s witty, intelligent lyrics bring the known historical characters to life tapping into audiences subconscious awareness that what is being said is true.
Hello I'm Dolly, with a script by Parton and Maria S. Schlatter, is inspired by her life and career. Adam Speers for ATG Productions, with whom she worked on a 2019 production of 9 to 5 in London's West End, is among Hello, I'm Dolly's co-producers alongside Parton. It will feature her classic songs, as well as new tunes. Named after her debut album "Hello I"m Dolly" which came out in 1967.
This show will have everything I want, and everything you could ask for in a long standing Broadway hit. A legendary music Icon, an underserved Southern fan base, an International recording star, Movie star, and a true story of triumph. Most of all, told from the heart of one of the most beautiful, genuine people you could hope to meet. Dolly was asked about her song "I will always love you" she said, " You never know if somethings going to be a hit or not...I wrote it from the bottom of my heart and I felt it...It was an easy song to sing, but I had no idea it would go on"... "I had a number 1 hit with it, then again a second time, a number 1 hit with the same song, when I did Best little Whore House in Texas with Burt Reynolds ...then when Whitney Houston recorded it, it exploded"...Dolly said after "Best little Whore House", She learned after that, she decided she would have to have more control, over any other project she does in the future.
Dolly says of her new Broadway show, "You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll clap, you’ll stomp, it is truly is a Grand Ol’ Opera. Pun and fun intended." We can't wait..I will see you at the Theatre, if you say it correctly, it rhymes with Guitar. - Joby Saad
